Project Background

Dempsey Wood worked closely with TCDC, the designer and the community to deliver a quality upgrade to the Whitianga Town Centre and Waterfront.

Project Overview

Working around the peak tourist seasons over a couple of years, Dempsey Wood delivered high-quality assets to the Whitianga community.

Stage One replaced and enhanced existing infrastructure in the main street area to set the standard and high expectations for Stage Two covering the waterfront and historic playground.

Outcomes

Stage One, Mainstreet

Over several winter months in 2018 DW worked with local subcontractors to repair and replace much of the water and service infrastructure in the Whitianga main street.

We worked very closely with the designers, council and local businesses to identify and mitigate issues while working to a tight deadline and adding improved public spaces for this great community.

Stage Two, Waterfront

Stage Two, over the winter period in 2019, had our team removing and replacing the old playground on the waterfront and adding in several new and exciting playground options.

We also replaced footpaths in the area, making them wider with a cleaner finish, which will allow businesses to offer al fresco dining options without impeding foot traffic.

On the harbourside, a new path with 20 historic markers leads people from the ferry dock to the main street.
