Improving our energy efficiency (and thereby reducing carbon emissions) makes both commercial and environmental sense. So we’re doing both — and we’re making good headway towards our 20% emissions reduction target. We’ve invested in electric vehicles and solar powered site offices, adopted fleet analytics and trained our drivers and operators to maximise fuel efficiency, and switched to an electricity supplier that’s 100% carbon neutral.
Decarbonisation is a particularly big challenge for our industry, especially given the machinery we use. But it needs to be tackled nonetheless, and we’re keen to lead from the front. So we’re always seeking out greater efficiencies and adopting new technologies. Together with our clients, suppliers, regulators and supply chain, we’re proud be a part of transforming and decarbonising our industry.
We treat environmental protection as a core part of every job, and it’s something we’re proud to be pretty good at. We have strong capabilities and extensive experience, backed by a track record of top council compliance and both our ISCA accreditation and ISO 14001:2015 certification. For example, we have experience in repairing broken land, working around sensitive ecosystems, dealing with hazardous substances and earthmoving large areas of exposed soil while minimising offsite discharges.
Our team bring unmatched expertise in both the design and compliance monitoring of a wide range of environmental aspects, so clients can be confident we’ve got it covered, not matter what stage the project is at. From management plans to alternative solutions for ESC measures, from high-frequency auditing to exceeding compliance requirements, from winter site works approvals to training and engagement — we do what it takes, and more, to leave the land in a better state than when we found it.
We’re serious about reducing waste and growing value — for our business, for our clients, and for our environment. We’re also well aware that in this industry, it’s vital to remain cost competitive. Because if we don’t get the job, we can’t improve anything. That’s why we’re focusing on reviewing procurement contracts, optimising processes, undertaking recycling, and always looking for new ways to do more with less.
To date, we’ve saved over $250,000 in procurement and diverted 222 tonnes of material from landfill. And we’ve achieved this through initiatives like using low carbon concrete and recycled aggregate, waste separation and reuse, reducing transport emissions through local sourcing, compliance and community engagement, and gap analysis to ensure compliance with our benchmarks.
