Project Background
A small yet meaningful project which overcame environmental challenges to transform Lake Pupuke and surrounding areas into an architectural work of art.
The Lake Pupuke Renewal Project was funded by Auckland Council and aimed to upgrade Lake Pupuke, the Quarry Lake Connection and the surrounding park area of Takapuna.
Project Overview
Dempsey Wood worked closely with Bespoke Landscape Architects, a New Zealand based architecture practice.
Some architectural features included metal and concrete cubes that echo the volcanic history of the area, informative stencil sandblasting on the footpath, park furniture and landscaping works.
The project team also liaised closely with the local community, especially the Rowing and Canoe clubs and North Shore Hospital.
A new 3x9m precast concrete launching platform will complement the project in the upcoming months that will be heavily utilised by the model boat club.
Project Initiatives
Remediation of the Lake Pupuke bank along a narrow causeway between Quarry Lake and Lake Pupuke
Installation of an overflow culvert from Quarry Lake to Lake Pupuke
Creation of a new footpath linking the Northshore Hospital park and the Rowing and Canoe Clubs by running along the causeway between the lakes
Significant landscaping for erosion protection, environmental diversity and beautification
Installation of functional artworks and points of interest along the pathway
Protection of aquatic resources using turbidity curtains during construction.
